Hardwoods are materials of broad-leaved (such as oak, beech, maple, walnut or teak). Most of the products manufactured from softwood species can also be produced from hardwoods, but they tend to have different properties and usages such as flooring, furniture, musical instruments construction and boatbuilding.
Hardwood species are used more for, visual applications such as furniture, flooring and cabinet doors because of their great colors, grain, resilience, toughness and overall pleasing appearance.
One of the most important reasons of the usage of hardwoods in flooring is that this material is often reserved for projects that require maximum durability. These aesthetic applications derive greater value from the wood than do structural applications. High-quality hardwoods are made into lumber and veneers, while low-grade hardwoods (aspen) are used in oriented strand board.
The biggest advantages of hardwood floors is that hardwood flooring is a more hygienic option than other floor types like carpet. A good amount of dust and debris get absorbed into the carpet fibers. But there is no place for debris to hide in hardwood floorings especially for hay fever.
